Ravshir, Yossi

Son of Dov and Shulamit. Born in Tel Aviv on the 1st of Sivan, June 8, 1948, at the height of the War of Independence. He studied at Henrietta Szold’s school, where he was a gifted and curious boy. He loved nature, and read books a lot. During his spare time, he entertained himself and his friends with instruments and “patents” he used to build and assemble from various objects he found at home. He brought home the crops he cultivated, at the agricultural farm of the Tel Aviv municipality. In addition, he would raise various animals in his home. After completing his elementary studies, he continued his agricultural studies at the “Green Village”. He began to prepare for the matriculation exams, and then joined the nucleus of the United Movement. He was drafted into the IDF in August 1966. His kindness and patience were loved by everyone who knew him. He worked in the bananas plantation, and his work was hard and arduous. After that, he worked in the almond grove, and found great interest in it. In the Six Day War, he fought with all the members of the nucleus in Nablus and in the Golan Heights, serving as a company commander. After the war, he went to the paratroop brigade with his friends, and again underwent a difficult training period, but this did not upset him. During one of the training sessions, his hearing was impaired, and therefore he went to Ein Gedi. There, he went to work in the vineyard with all his devotion and seriousness. On the 29th of Iyar, May 27, 1968 he fell, while serving in the farm, before the end of the first harvest. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery, in Kiryat Shaul. On behalf of his commanders and soldiers in the unit, a letter of condolence was sent to the family. Among other things, the writer noted that although “his health was low for a short period, Yossi did not give up his continued service in the paratroopers’ unit. After his fall, his parents published a pamphlet called “Yossi”.
