Radiya, Arnon

Radiya, Arnon

The eldest son of Jonah and Sayid. Arnon was born in Yemen in 1945. His family immigrated to Israel as part of the “Magic Carpet.” At that time, the family had two sons, and four more siblings were born in Israel. In 1963 Arnon was drafted into the IDF. Until his release in 1965, he served in the Engineering Corps. After five years in civilian life, Arnon decided to join the police force. In 1970 he enlisted, and because he came from the engineering corps, he wanted to deal with sabotage. First Sergeant Arnon fell while serving in Lebanon in the first Tsur disaster. On the morning of the 25th of Kislev 5743 (November 11, 1982), an explosion took place in a building in the city of Tire, where the Israeli military government and many IDF forces were located. The building collapsed and about 100 people were killed, including seventy-six members of the Israeli security forces. Arnon was thirty-seven years old when he fell. He was buried in the Netanya military cemetery.
