Potterman, Eliezer (Potter)


Son of Esther and Pinchas, was born on April 30, 1930, in the city of Nova-Korsha, Poland, where he immigrated to Israel in April 1936. During his eight years of study at the Netzach Israel school in Haifa, He studied in the mechanical engineering department at the vocational school of the Hebrew Technion, and excelled at both work and theoretical studies, was a member of the “Hapoel” marine department and later moved to the basketball department and was one of the best athletes. (Expanded physical education) and was sent to a course for instructors. In order to increase his service to the homeland, he joined Gadna, completed a training course for commanders and provided guidance services to the Hagana. Although he was not a member of any youth organization, after completing his studies in the vocational school, in the winter of 1947, he joined the training of Scouts H., where his friends were from the school, and went with him to Dafna. Although he liked his profession and found satisfaction in ironmaking and the control of his hands on the metal, he also liked agricultural work. In November 1947, he joined all the Palmach training courses and returned to his unit, which was parked in Dafna, Tel Hai and Jahula, and participated in escorting convoys, guarding the transportation routes in the Upper Galilee and the battles With the enemy, and recently participated with the Yiftach fighters in the second attack on Nebi Yusha (Fortress 28). The second attack on the Nebi Yusha police force took place on the night of 19-20 April 1948. The saboteurs broke through the fences, approached the building and began to place the explosives. In the process, grenades were thrown at them, causing casualties. The evacuation of the casualties delayed the explosion, and in the meantime, additional fighters were injured, including the terrorists and the bomb was not activated. At dawn, orders were given to withdraw. The withdrawal was carried out with the combat of considerable enemy forces summoned to the scene and there were many casualties. In this battle he fell on the 11th of Nissan 5708 (20.4.1948). He was laid to rest in a grave in the Nebi Yusha cemetery.
