Plonsky, Shlomo


Son of Chaya (daughter of Rabbi Moshe Lipnis of Bialystok, one of the innovators of the settlement in Petach Tikvah in 1875) and Haim, was born on 27.5.1917 in Petah Tikva. He graduated with honors from the “Netzach Yisrael” religious elementary school and continued to study at the Ahad Ha’am Gymnasium. He devoted himself to youth movement activities and agricultural work. During World War II, he volunteered for the British army and continued to serve in the Jewish Brigade as a sabotage in the Engineers Corps, reached the rank of sergeant (sergeant) and participated in battles in the north He returned to his work and began to worry about his home, but he did not release his duty to the homeland, he continued to work in the Haganah and completed a course for commanders. From the beginning of the War of Independence, he enlisted in active service in an engineering unit, as a skilled and experienced commander and traitor, and contributed his experience in raising the level of the new recruits. He participated in all the combat operations of his unit. Joined the 7th Brigade and took part in Operation son of-Nun B – the second attack on the Legion in Latrun in order to break through the road to Jerusalem. The attack failed due to the enemy’s superiority and the forces were forced to retreat. In this battle he fell (first considered missing) on ​​the 21st of Iyar 5708 (May 30, 1948). He left behind a wife, Shoshana, and two daughters. On the 17th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949) he was transferred to the eternal military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
