Peretz, Yitzhak


Son of Tamar and Moshe was born in Beit Shemesh on June 30, 1963. His parents immigrated from Morocco and for a short period lived in Beit Shemesh until they moved south to Tel Aviv, where Yitzhak was a member of a large family. He graduated from the “Kiyach” elementary school in Tel Aviv, went on to junior high school at the Tachkemoni School, and then attended a vocational school in the electric field. Yitzhak was an electrician. Yitzhak was a quiet boy, disciplined, loved sports and was active in sports clubs in south Tel Aviv. He played football in the neighborhood leagues. In August 1981, he enlisted in the IDF and served in the Artillery Corps, where he completed his basic training and was sent to a course for self-propelled artillery and a rider-driver course, (10.6.1982), as he was in a forward movement with his unit, the TCO he was driving in was overturned and Yitzhak was killed. He was 19 years old. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Holon. Yitzhak left behind his parents, five sisters and two brothers. After he fell, Yitzhak was promoted to corporal, and Defense Minister Ariel Sharon wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “Corporal Yitzhak Peretz gave his life for his homeland. He served in the Hatam Battalion, completed an artillery course with honors, was devoted, accepted and loved by his friends. The commander of his unit wrote to his family: “Your son served in an artillery unit for a long time, carried out extensive operational work, training and finally participated in Operation Peace for the Galilee, and he performed all his duties faithfully, with devotion, while demonstrating the spirit of a team.
