Peretz, Nissim


Nissim ben Rachel and Nissim. Born in 1951 in Morocco, Nissim was born on the day his father passed away. In 1963, at the age of twelve, he immigrated to Israel with his mother. In addition to Hebrew, Nissim spoke French, Arabic and English. In February 1969, Nissim was drafted into compulsory military service. At the end of basic training he was assigned to serve in the air force, first as a locksmith and later as a ground equipment mechanic. In February 1972, Nissim joined the ranks of the career army and served as head of the Air Force’s generators department and as an aviation engineer. For eighteen years he performed miracles in the regular army and during the service he received badges of his participation in the Yom Kippur War and Peace of the Galilee and the badge of operational service. In 1975 he married Tamar, where they raised their three children. On the 21st of Adar 5740, March 18, 1990), Nissim sucombed to the illness that overwhelmed him. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Dimona. Survived by his wife, Tamar, his son, Ronen and two daughters – Odelia and Hely. He was thirty-nine when he died. After his death, Nissim was promoted to the rank of sergeant.
