Parpar, Moshe (Moishka)

Son of Rachel and Yehoshua, was born on January 7, 1929 in Nahalat Ganim. He attended elementary school and was a member of Hanoar Haoved in the Yarden group in Ramat Gan and a member of the Hagana. Moshe worked as a locksmith. In 1945, he joined a hachshara in Yagur. During the searches on the “Black Saturday” (29.6.1946), he was taken into detention in Rafah. When he was released from prison, Moshe moved to Givat Hashlosha. In the second year of his service in the Palmach Moshe rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel and participated in the elimination of gangs of rioters in Kafr Faja. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, Moshe was one of the first to defend the water line in the Negev. He went to Jerusalem and was among the escorts of the convoys and on one of the trips he was hit by fragments of a bomb, but continued to command and managed to rescue his subordinates. In preparation for Operation Nachshon, the Kastel, which controls the road and was held by our forces, was conquered. The Arabs carried out a number of counter-attacks in order to return this vital control to their hands. On the night of April 7-8, their commander, Abd al-Qader al-Husseini, was killed. The next day the Arab forces carried out a fierce attack to capture the place and find the body of their leader. The Palmach platoon, which belonged to the 5th Battalion of the Harel Brigade, came out as reinforcements for Castel and its members covered the retreat of the defenders of the Castel. Many of the reinforcements were killed in the battle. In this battle Moshe fell on the 28th of Adar II, 5708 (8.4.1948) and was buried in Ma’ale Hachamisha. On the 12th of Kislev 5714 (19.11.1953) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
