Even though he looked small and childish, he was actually strong and muscular and had excellent physical fitness. He was quick and quick-responding and had an inner quiet. He loved adventures and loved life, while he hated sleeping a lot and loved working hard for hours. From his youth, he loved the farm very much and wanted to return to it and continue to develop it after he completed his regular service. Yosef was drafted into the IDF in early May 1971.
