Ozen, Wilam (“Nanny”)


The son of Emile and Farcha. Born in Tunis on September 26, 1952, he immigrated to Israel with his family in 1954. After completing his studies at the Meir religious elementary school in Lod, he was hired as an apprentice at a metal workshop in the Israel camp near Lod. He studied the profession and was an excellent locksmith, he had “golden hands” and he liked to paint and paint, and he was a handsome, kind and cheerful guy, despite the difficult financial situation in his home. His friends in various social activities, such as organized tours and visits to the discotheques, joined the IDF in mid-November 1969 and was assigned to the Golani Brigade. With his comrades in the brigade, he was in charge of the Israeli security forces in various sectors. He was a disciplined soldier who excelled in all his actions and was thus appreciated by his commanders. He was also chosen for his last assignment, from which he did not return, because he was a superb soldier with great experience. On September 14, 1972, Cpl. Vilam fell in a battle in the Jebel Sumak area near Har Dov. He was laid to rest in the Lod cemetery. In a letter of condolence to the family, his commander wrote: “Nanny was a combat unit that bore the burden of Israel’s security in the sectors and even operations on the other side of the border that were quiet for them. The unit lost one of its best fighters – its members. ” His family commemorated the entry of a Torah scroll, Zohar books and a plaque in his name to the Eli Cohen synagogue in Lod.
