Ovadia, Mordechai
Son of Naomi and Yahya. He was born on the 11th of Adar 5712 (March 8, 1952) in Moshav Shtulim. On Mordecai’s birthday, the family moved to Rishon LeZion for eight years. He attended the Yeshurun elementary school in the morning hours, and in the afternoon he studied religious studies in the Heder. He aspired to attend the naval school at Michmoret, but when he did not succeed, he turned to professional studies. He continued his studies at the Amal vocational high school in Rehovot, in the automotive mechanics field. In this framework he was discovered as an outstanding trainee. In addition to his high school studies, he was active in leisure time in the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed movement. He loved sports, especially football. Mordechai was drafted in February 1970 and was assigned to serve in the Ordnance Corps as a mechanic of vehicles. After his regular service in February 1973, he joined the ranks of the career army and married Margalit. He served in the Yom Kippur War in Sinai and served for seven years as a vehicle officer, far from his home, and became a sergeant major.In his opinion on behalf of the unit commander he was told that his staff fulfilled his duties with dedication and efficiency. Mordechai was killed during his service on February 21, 1987. He was succeeded by Raya, two sons – Rafi and Oren, daughter of Yafit, parents, four sisters and five brothers – Bracha, Zechariah, Zivia, Tuvia, David, Rami, Sarah, Daughter of-Sheva and Eli The unit commander wrote in a letter of condolence to the grieving family for Mordecai’s impressed commanders His dedication, and his high self-esteem, and the family received a certificate of appreciation for Mordecai’s service.
