He studied at Ein Ganim elementary school and in the Biotechnology track at the Amal B high school. Eli excelled in his studies and especially liked the real and scientific subjects. After completing high school, he continued to study for two years at the Amal B College and was certified as a biotechnology engineer. During his studies Eli was part of a team that investigated the identification of phytoplasm in vitro at the Faculty of Agriculture in Rehovot. After graduating from reserve duty in May 1998, Eli enlisted in the IDF and was assigned to serve in the Technology and Logistics Division of the Maintenance Corps as a Kalvant at the fuel laboratory at the Tel Hashomer base, where he was highly regarded by his commanders. He was impressed by his eloquence and wisdom and was always pleasant to consult with him and to hear his opinion Eli was attentive to his surroundings and was willing to help those around him at every opportunity, out of personal initiative.
