Omer, Yair (“Kiro”)

Omer, Yair (“Kiro”)

Son of Moshe and Malka. He was born on June 11, 1936 in Mishmar Ha’emek to his parents, members of the kibbutz. He completed his studies at the local educational institution. Apart from his academic excellence, his quick grasp and his remarkable memory, he showed his strength in sports, which he loved to the point of enthusiasm. But it was not just a pastime that he loved sports, for his activity stemmed from his desire for perfection and harmony of mind and body. The first was for every action that required effort, responsibility and ability to perform; Hence, when we were in ninth grade, when the group had to choose a guide for younger children, he was the first to offer himself to this action, in which he demonstrated his ability and ability, and in this role he saw not only an important service for his students, but a way of educating himself and forging his character. He was inherently modest, self-contained and anxious about prominence, but at the same time he was firm in his opinions and would not give up mainly when he knew he was right. He was sensitive about justice and discrimination and was willing to stand on the weaker side of the group and society as a whole – and thus served as an example for his students. Even his loyalty to the kibbutz and his warm relationship to him were exemplary – and since his enlistment in the army in August 1954 he would have looked home to replace his rifle with a plow and return to the tractor and forage in which he worked, but he did not. He fell in the battle of Rafah in Sinai during the 27th of March 1956. He was buried at the military emergency cemetery in Bari and on the 13th of Marcheshvan, 5708 (7.11.1957) was transferred to the eternal rest of the cemetery in Mishmar Ha’emek.
