Nussbaum, Menachem (Marcel)


Son of Lipman and Renata. He was born on the 16th of Teves, January 8, 1947, in Lodz, Poland. The family immigrated to Israel in 1957, when Menachem was ten years old. After their aliyah, Menachem studied at the “Aliyot” elementary school, and continued his high school studies at the ORT vocational school. He discovered special talents in drawing, and took engineering classes. After his father’s death, he was the mainstay of his household. In August 1965, he was drafted into the IDF, and slowly climbed the ranks, until he joined the standing army, becoming a lieutenant. He was a good commander, and a talented leader. As a person in general, as a son, brother, friend and commander in the IDF, Menachem knew how to give everyone his due, and all his energy and talent were devoted to helping everyone around him. Menachem fell in the line of duty, on the first of Tishrei, September 23, 1968. He was brought to rest, in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. The commander of his unit, in a letter of condolences to his mother, wrote among other things, “Menachem radiated from his personality, and was exceptional in his maturity and character, from his contemporaries. For two years, Menachem served under my command. At the beginning of my acquaintance, I saw, before me, a person who experienced the agony of life, and knew how to attack, and deal with problems out of a characteristic maturity. “
