Nir, Kobi
Kobi, son of Hanna and Michael Nir, was born in Givat Shmuel in 1980. In August 1999, Kobi enlisted in the IDF and was assigned to the Givati Brigade. At the end of the combat route he was sent to a combat paramedics course. In the middle of 2000, Koby finished his course and began to serve as a medic in the battalion’s ‘Shaked Battalion’, serving in Lebanon and later in the Gaza Strip. On the 6th of Elul (25.8.2001) Kobi fell in the course of his duties in Gush Katif, during an incident in which two terrorists infiltrated the Marganit post and opened fire, the deputy battalion commander was seriously injured. Kobi, who arrived with the battalion commander at a waiting point outside the army post, asked for permission to enter the outpost and join the fighting, and he ran alone to the outpost, announcing “I’m going to save the deputy battalion commander.” Although the outpost was not yet clear, Kobi immediately began treating the wounded man to stop the blood flow that had burst from his body. Kobi was also killed by a rifle fired at him from a range of meters. He was twenty-one years old when he fell. After his death, Kobi was raised to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kfar Sava, leaving behind his parents, sister and brother.
