Naveh, Yosef


Yosef, son of Pnina and Moshe, was born on August 12, 1944, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and immigrated to Israel with his family in June 1952. His family settled in Kibbutz Mefalsim and later moved to Kibbutz Givat Hayim (Ichud) In elementary school. Yossi took upon himself to bring new immigrants from South America to the life of Israeli society, and therefore he taught Hebrew to young immigrants and organized social and cultural activities. He contributed to the rapprochement between the Israelis and the new immigrants and helped the rapid absorption of many South American immigrants in their new country. Yossi was an outstanding athlete, especially in soccer and volleyball. He was active in sports and participated in most of the activities in his neighborhood. He also led his soccer team to the competition, which was attended by groups of immigrants from South America. Yosef was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early May 1962 and assigned to the Armored Corps, where he was trained as a tank gunner and later completed a tank commander course, and was sent to serve in the Armored Corps 7, where he served as a liaison officer. At the end of October 1964, Yossi was discharged from regular service and assigned to a reserve unit of the Armored Corps, and before the outbreak of the Six-Day War he was put in a cast and could not take part in the battles.
