Naftali, Shahar


Ben Juliet and Isaac. Was born on October 4, 1950 in Tirat Hacarmel near Haifa. His parents from Iraq, who immigrated to Israel in the 1950s and settled in Tirat Hacarmel. Shahar studied at the Degania Elementary School and continued his studies at Shifman High School in Tirat Hacarmel. Because of the financial difficulties that arose in supporting the family, he was forced to stop his studies and went to work before he completed his studies, until his army service, and he was very active in social life. In early November 1968 Shahar was drafted into the IDF, underwent basic training and continued the difficult course of the Golani Brigade. During his service he participated in the War of Attrition, the Yom Kippur War and the Peace-Galilee War. When he was discharged from the army in 1971 he went to study in the Naviim course and completed the course with honors, during which time he married Sylvia and they had four daughters: Hagit, Aviva, Shoshana and Uriel. He served in the army and eventually served in the navy shipyard, as commander of the Manofiya, which is one of the most important departments, and his contribution to the navy’s operational capabilities in the field of business is crucial. With the aim of advancing the subjects for which he was in charge He also taught and invested heavily in the advancement of colleagues and officers, and in the life of the company he was very active and on every trip and event that was always outstanding, he volunteered and helped, and he lived a routine life of work and family happiness. In 1991 Shachar suffered a severe illness, during which he underwent several operations and difficult treatments, and fought bravely and did not give up until his last moments. He was buried in the military cemetery on the Carmel coast. He left behind a wife and four daughters, a mother, four sisters – Amalia, Carmit, Ruthie and Zahava, and three brothers – Shimon, Yaakov and Eli. In 1997 his daughter Aviva fell during her military service. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the commander of the unit wrote: “Shahar enlisted in the career army in the navy and he served with us here in the unit, his close friends do not find peace from the moment he was informed of his death.
