Mordechai, Goren

Ben Miriam and Chaim. Goren was born during the Six-Day War, and was given to him as a tribute to Rabbi Goren, the Chief Rabbi of the IDF, who announced the blowing of the shofar on the liberation of the Western Wall. He studied at Omerim Elementary School in Omer. After that he studied for one year at the Carmit boarding school in Jerusalem. When he was in 10th grade, he moved to the Air Force Technical College in Be’er Sheva. Goren was kind to his teachers and gained their trust. More than once his guides used his advice. He was prominent in organizing social life in school. During summer vacations he worked as a counselor at the youth camp at Moshav Nevatim. He was a sports fan and played basketball and volleyball. His other hobbies were folk dancing and watching movies. Goren, tall and black-haired, handsome and with a shy smile, was a man who many wanted to be close to and trust with his friends. When he completed his high school studies in the field of aviation mechanics, he was offered the opportunity to continue his studies in the technological reserve, which entails volunteering for career army service. He hesitated because he was connected to his parents’ farm and saw his future. Finally, he decided to join the studies as part of the reserve, but intended to return to his parents’ farm after fulfilling his obligations to the defense establishment. He was drafted into the Israel Air Force in mid-March 1986 and was assigned to the Air Force Unit as a helicopter mechanic, during which he completed additional professional courses, and in March 1989 he volunteered for a career in the regular army, where he was proud of the wings of the airborne mechanic. His personal file is full of praise and appreciation from his commanders: “A highly professional and dedicated soldier.” “He performs his duties at a high level,” and his friend Yossi said: “Goren was a very nice and prominent figure in the squadron. He loved everyone and everyone loved him. “Goren tried not to worry his parents, and did not tell them much about his activities in the squadron, but only after they had completed the parachute jump, did he feel a great commitment to help with the farm. On April 28, 1990, Goren fell in the line of duty in a collision of two helicopters in the Jordan Valley, and was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Beer Seven, he left behind his parents, two brothers – Roni and Yaron and two sisters – Drora and Revital, who was promoted to the rank of sergeant after his death. Eulogy said his commander: “At first glance we all discovered a tall, sturdy fellow with a shy smile. At the beginning of your steps you stood out in your many qualities, and we had no doubt that these would lead you to serve as one of the pillars of the wing and the squadron. You were blessed with boldness and nobility. You were a model. The beam of light around you was far away. “The Jewish student organization in Rome planted a tree in the forests of the Jewish National Fund.
