Menachem was a member of the Scout Movement in Kiryat Shalom, and in early November 1980 he was drafted into the army. Menachem was assigned to serve in the IAF and took a course in the IAF Technical School. During his military service, he received the Outstanding Soldier’s Medal several times. At the end of his mandatory service, Menachem joined the ranks of the career army, and in March 1984 he was sent by the IAF to the United States for an internship on his work. Menahem was a quiet and humble young man with a golden heart who displayed a constant willingness to help, and as his commander testified: “Throughout his career he worked with complete faith, professionalism, demonstrating high technical ability, diligence and dedication.
