Shai, son of Ruth and Reuven, was born on December 1, 1952 in Kibbutz Re’im. Before his enlistment in the IDF, he worked in the farm for a few months, in the branches of the dairy and the field, and Shai was drafted into the IDF in early November 1971 and assigned to the Armored Corps. After basic training, he was assigned to the armored infantry unit. During the past year he served in the roster of the recruits’ camp. During his military service, he had a surprising technical sense. He did not like military life, so he refused to go to the officers’ course, despite the wishes of his superiors, but he was proud of his achievements, and he stood well in all the hard work and the tedious tasks, thanks to the strength His strong will, he gained the commanders’ appreciation, and many wanted him, in every field he was busy with, always trying to get to the bottom of things, taking an interest in his work and his fellow soldiers., Was considered the most beloved commander in the department and one of the best instructors in the department, and he devoted great work and dedication to his apprentices in each class, thanks to his good temperament, integrity, candor and great ability, his friends liked him, his commanders admired him and his soldiers respected him and liked him. In a battle held on October 15, 1973, in the northern sector of the Suez Canal, Shay was killed in an ambush, he was brought to rest at the Kibbutz Reim cemetery, Brothers and sisters, and was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant.
