Milner, Shlomo

Milner, Shlomo

Son of Ita and Dov, was born on the 26th of Kislav, December 25, 1913, in the city of Gorzad, Lithuania. In 1933 immigrated to Israel on the ship “Martha Washington”. During the Second World War Shlomo enlisted in the British Army. He served in Africa and joined the Jewish Brigade in Europe. After five years he returned to Israel, got ready to work in Tel Aviv and began to make his home and family in Israel. On the day of the declaration of the state, Shlomo was drafted into full service as a former soldier and served in the Alexandroni Brigade. Because of his relatively old age and the condition of his family (his wife was in her last month of pregnancy), he had the option of moving to a non-combat service. Until the request was approved, Shlomo was sent to the front in the defense of Moshav Geulim, where he fell on the 21st of Iyar, May 30, 1948. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Netanya. His daughter, who was born a few weeks after his death, was named Shlomit after him.
