Metzler, Ben-Zion
Son of Fruma and Eliezer, was born on June 23, 1914 in Novi-Sontz, Poland. After graduating from trade school he prepared to immigrate to Israel and worked in training kibbutzim in Galicia in 1931-1932. In 1933 he immigrated to Israel and joined the Zionist youth group in Petah Tikva and Kiryat Anavim. In 1935 he left the group to bring his parents to Israel and support them. About a week before the end of the first truce (in June 1948), he returned to vacation in his temporary apartment in the vicinity of the central health fund building (his permanent apartment was destroyed by a shell). And when he went out to pump water from a pit in the yard of the house he was seriously injured by a shell and died of his wounds sometime later on the 28th of Iyar 5708 (June 6, 1948). He was buried in Sheikh Bader Aleph. On the 28th of Elul 5710 (10.9.1950), he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
