Menshas, Menahem


Menachem, son of Olga and Yehiel, was born on January 31, 1951, in Haifa. He studied at the Shalva elementary school in Haifa and at the Sprinzak high school, and completed his studies at the vocational school “Mussinzon” in Ramatayim, with the aim of automotive mechanics. Menachem was a diligent and diligent student and was very interested in various subjects. Along with his studies he worked in sports, participated in athletics competitions and even won prizes and certificates of excellence. He was a member of darting, judo and swimming, was interested in all the innovations in sports, and even read books about light athletics. According to his educators, Menahem was a well-disciplined and disciplined student and was an example of his classmates in carrying out tasks assigned to him. He was always surrounded by friends and his house was open to everyone. He was candid and loved to help others. Although raised and educated in the city, he loved the land and agriculture and told his friends that he dreams of becoming a farmer in the future. His parents and all his family had a devoted and caring son. His mother said that the house and the family took first place in his list of priorities. He shared his experiences with his parents and talked to and consulted with them about all sorts of issues and problems. Menachem was drafted into the IDF at the beginning of May 1970 and was assigned to the Armored Corps, where he served as a commander and commander of the Armored Corps, and served as an instructor in the Armored Corps’ training bases and was an example of his comrades in his unit. During his service in the Israel Defense Forces, he tried not to worry his parents, made sure to call home and spent all his holidays at home with family members. At the end of his compulsory army service he was discharged from the IDF and enrolled in the automotive mechanics program at the School of Practical Engineering at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, where he joined the members of his reserve unit and fought in the Sinai and Suez Canal battles. On 29 Tishrei 5734 (25.10.1973), Menachem was killed in enemy fire and killed, was brought to eternal rest in Haifa cemetery, and left behind by parents and brother.
