Meir Akrish
Son of Rachel and Moshe, was born on May 15, 1925 in the city of Kabala, Greece. At a young age he moved to Spain, finished elementary school and studied furniture carpentry and upholstery. All he aspired to was to immigrate to Israel and he managed to reach the shores of the country in 1944. Meir was assigned to the “Paratroopers” Brigade of the Harel-Palmach Brigade, trained in regular army training, but aspired to be a sailor on a Jewish ship so that he could bring the Israelites to Israel. On 4 Nissan, April 23, 1948, Meir fell in battle. He was brought to eternal rest in a mass grave in the military cemetery in Kiryat Anavim.
