Marko, Avraham (‘Avi’)


Son of Arieh (Leon) and Dennis. He was born on the 11th of Iyar 5708 (May 1, 1958) in Moshav Gan Yoshiya, near Hadera, the eldest son of parents who own a farm in the moshav. He studied at the Yesod elementary school in Hadera. From the seventh grade he moved to the Ruppin Regional School near Netanya. At the Neurim Institute he acquired the automotive mechanics profession and managed to work for him for a year in the Emek Hefer cooperative before he joined the IDF My father was a quiet, gentle and shy child, and there was something in his personality that captured the Lev of all his vision. In the Yom Kippur War, when many members of the moshav were confined to the fronts, Avi spared no time and effort to help the neighbors work in their farms. From an early age, he helped his father in all branches of the agriculture, and he devoted much attention to his two younger sisters and brothers. He was an active member of the Shooting Club in Hadera and loved to ride his motorcycle, which he acquired at his first salary. His physical fitness – because he wanted to volunteer for the Paratroopers Brigade, and in early 1976 he was drafted and began the exhausting training, the parachuting course and the other courses. He was also called in the company in short by his two names ‘Abramroko’. On May 10, 1977, Avraham fell while carrying out a helicopter crash in the Jordan Valley. In this disaster, 54 soldiers were killed. He was brought to eternal rest in the military section of the cemetery in Hadera. Survived by his parents, two sisters and a brother. The parents published a booklet in his memory.
