Marimchik, Azarya (Jimmy)


Son of Sara and Shlomo, was born on January 6, 1928 in Tel Aviv. He completed his studies at the “Tel Nordoi” elementary school and then moved to the “New High School”. When he was in the eighth grade, he left school and wanted to enlist in the Jewish Brigade. However, at the request of his movement, the Mahanot Ha’olim, he returned to join the recruits, until he was discharged due to illness. The purpose of his life was painting and in this profession he wanted to ascend and ascend to a recognized status in the audience of artists. When he returned from the training, he did a lot of work in handiwork, painting on glass and wood, painting jars, etc. In July 1947, he was admitted to the “Bezalel-Hahadash” school in Jerusalem in the Department of Applied Graphics. In order to support himself, he served at that time in the Unit of Notrim on Mount Scopus. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, he was attached to the Hagash of Jerusalem and was the commander of the Shimon HaTzadik neighborhood, bordering Sheikh Jarrah, where he commanded a platoon in raids on this murderous neighborhood, and was attacked by an attack on a night convoy to Hartov. Who completed a platoon commanders’ course, participated with the Palmach units in the break-up to Katamon and later commanded a selected platoon at the time of the breakthrough to Talpiot. Three times he broke into Ramat Rachel, which was conquered by the Arabs and took part in bold actions to straighten the lines in the Maglara. Azariah was killed on Friday (13 July 1948) in Ma’ale Hachamisha by a shell, and was brought to the eternal rest of the military cemetery in Kiryat Anavim.
