Mansur, Yosef (“Joe”)

Mansur, Yosef (“Joe”)

Son of Shlomo and Fortuna. He was born on the 15th of Tevet 5707 (15.1.1947) in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. The family immigrated to Israel in 1961, and Yosef was in the religious youth institution in Kfar Hasidim where he graduated from a boarding school. He later worked as a receptionist at the Ganton Hotel in Tiberias. He was a brave soldier and a good friend who was ready to help any moment of need for his friends, as the commander of his unit writes about him in a letter of condolence to his parents after the fall of their son. All his commanders and friends and these qualities paved the way for him as a model in the IDF as a medic. Joseph was known as a soldier devoted to his duties, which was expressed in the decisive battle against the Syrian enemy that took place in Tel-Azziyat on the Golan Heights on the fifth day of the battles on 1 June 1967. In this battle Yosef showed courage when he ran and rushed forward. Three days before his death (June 6, 1967), Yosef sent a short letter to his parents: “Father, pray for me, because I can not do it. Let’s hope it passes – play hard, hope he succeeds … “And his brother wrote that he does not think about the house at all – whether he sees it again or not, because he can not do anything about it.
