He completed his high school studies at the Herzliya Gymnasium in the real-world track. Shmulik’s hobbies were building models of airplanes and playing. After graduating from high school, he was accepted to study aeronautical engineering at the Technion as part of the academic reserve and graduated with honors. At the end of November 1972, Shmulik was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces and joined the Israel Air Force as an engineer, including a senior engineer in Israel Aircraft Industries in the Kfir project, responsible for the design and development of one of the Israel Air Force planes, , A project officer in a transport planner and commander of an engineering unit with the rank of lieutenant colonel, the following are the assessments of his commanders, which are in his personal file: “An excellent engineer with a great ability to work. A well-trained team leader. “He was promoted to an outstanding officer during his service, and Shmulik completed a master’s degree in aeronautical engineering, married Chasida and eventually had their daughters, Shiri and Hila and their son Asaf On December 9, 1989, Shmulik fell during his service and was put to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He left behind a wife, two daughters, a son, parents, two brothers – Yitzhak and Ronen, and a sister – Orly. He received a certificate of appreciation and respect for his service in the career army.
