Malka, Raphael (‘Rafi’)


Son of Meir and Rachel. He was born on January 10, 1958 in Jerusalem. He studied at the Henrietta Szold elementary school and in the vocational high school, Amal, in the field of fine mechanics. Rafi was active in the Gadna Club and was involved in various sports, especially in the field of darts, and he also organized shooting competitions among youth, and he had a great love for the sea. And other sea-related subjects, and another expression of his deep connection to the sea was in the artistic field: he harnessed fish and sea animals and designed them into artistic units (eg candlesticks) To the navy. After completing a weapons technician’s course, he attained the rank of corporal, who served in the role of a naval weapon, and did not limit himself to the service he was assigned, and because he wanted to contribute more than what was given to him during his service in Eilat A vessel in the north, on the 2nd of Sivan 5738 (7.6.1978), fell in the line of duty. Was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. Survived by his parents, younger brothers and sisters. “Rafi served in our unit for only a month, but immediately gained the hearts of his friends and commanders, thanks to his honesty, his dedication and his excellent professional ability,” Rafi said in a letter of condolence to the family. His life was cut short while he was still in the army, while fulfilling his role as a model soldier. The family commemorated him by bringing a Torah scroll to the Tiferet Yerushalayim synagogue in the Katamon neighborhood of Jerusalem.
