Maimon, Emanuel


Emmanuel Maimon, son of Esther and Yaakov, was born on the 17th of Tishrei, (13.10.1927) in Jerusalem. In 1946, his leg was broken in a work accident, and even after months of healing, he did not return to normal. However, in December 1946 he joined the Poriya group in the Lower Galilee, quickly became one of the pillars of the group and was very devoted to it. He devoted himself to study, studied natural sciences and languages ​​and was a regular guest at Beit Gordon in Degania. The War of Independence finds him standing in his group. The Syrians invaded the Jordan Valley on May 16, 1948, took control of several of the area’s outposts, but were stopped by our forces in Zemach. On May 18 the Syrians launched an attack on a plant with the help of artillery and tanks. Our forces did not withstand the intensity of the Syrian attack. At first, the town of Tzemach fell, and finally the police station, and the defenders retreated under Syrian fire towards Degania. Emanuel fell in Tzemach on 18 May 1948. His body was not identified among the bodies of the other casualties and he was brought to eternal rest In a mass grave in the military cemetery in Degania Aleph.
