Lifshitz, Zvi

Son of-Alta and Baruch, was born in 1920 in Kherson, Ukraine. In 1925 the family moved to Lithuania. Where he taught national-religious education and joined a Zionist youth movement. In 1934 the family emigrated to Johannesburg, South Africa. Where Zvi continued to study in Jewish and Hebrew studies and prepared for evening classes for matriculation examinations. In 1935 he joined Hapo’el Hamizrahi and devoted himself to the movement’s service with enthusiasm, vigor and perseverance. At the movement meetings and in her conferences, he was a good speaker in Yiddish and English. He held key positions in the leadership and guidance of Hashomer Hadati. He was preparing to immigrate to Israel, and as such he paid as a typist in the work of the building, so that he would have a profession in Israel. At the beginning of 1946 he arrived in Israel with a group of friends from South Africa and went to a training course in Kfar Etzion, where he worked in construction and came to do his own work as well. He visited the kibbutzim of the “religious kibbutz” in search of the desired perfection, and finally joined Kfar Etzion, hoping that he would eventually find what he wanted. In Kfar Etzion, he adapted to the harsh conditions of soldiers under siege, He believed in victory until the very last moment and as an animal lover he was particularly opposed to the destruction of the cattle animals because of lack of supplies, that the animals would be needed after the days of evil … In this steadfast faith he stood guard at one position in the western section of the camp , Where he fell in the fall of the bloc on Wednesday, May 13, 1948. In those days, his Lev was chosen – the Haganah, which was one of the defenders of the Old City of Jerusalem. On the 17th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
