Lieberman, Eliyahu
Son of Leah and Meir, was born on the 25th of Adar 1, March 7, 1929, in the city of Bialystok, Poland. When he was four, he immigrated to Israel with his parents. When he was drafted, he was among the first cadets, serving in the Carmeli Brigade. He participated in military operations in the Galilee, from the beginning of the war. During his service, he was injured in a road accident, but before he recovered from his wounds, he returned to his base. The next day a convoy was dispatched. Although his leg was wounded, and he was released from his participation in the escort of the convoy, he did not want to give up his place, and demanded that he be included in the operation. The convoy, with seven vehicles and ninety people, left Nahariya on the 16th of Adar 2, March 27, 1948, in order to transfer supplies, fortifications and reinforcements to Yehiam. Near Kabri, the convoy encountered an Arab ambush. The first armored vehicle managed to break into Yehiam, but the rest of the vehicles were ambushed. The convoy members fought until the evening. Under cover of darkness, some of them managed to escape, but half of them fell in battle, Eliyahu among them. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Nahariya.
