Licht, Shmuel (“Shmulik”)


Son of Hanan and Luba. He was born on July 13, 1949 in Rishon Letzion. His parents were Holocaust survivors who managed to reach Israel after they had gone through the hardships of the war to establish a family in Israel and raise their children in their homeland. Shmuel studied at the Be’eri elementary school and excelled in craftsmanship. After graduating from elementary school, he attended the Magdiel High School in Givatayim. He was a member of the Hashomer Hatzair youth movement and served as an instructor in the movement until his enlistment in the IDF, and his youth movement members who were very devoted to him admired him for his leadership qualities, He was active in the darting department and was awarded many medals and certificates of excellence. In July 1964, he underwent a Gadna training course. He was a gifted athlete and practiced gymnastics, athletics, swimming and soccer. He has participated in many sports competitions and has made great progress. Despite his many activities in the movement, he did not neglect his studies and planned to continue his studies at the Technion after his discharge from the IDF, and he was able to establish social relations quickly and thus continued his strong ties with his friends. He was a well-to-do son and devoted to his parents, who was drafted into the IDF in September 1967 and assigned to the Ordnance Corps. On the first day of Shvat 5730 (8.1.1970), before he finished his regular service, he fell in the Nir-Yitzhak-Gvulot area, where he fell on a landmine and was brought to rest in the cemetery in Rishon Letzion.
