Lewenstein, Shlomo-Alexander

Son of Meir-David and Shulamit. He was born on October 9, 1934, in Jerusalem, where he studied at the Moriah School in Tel Aviv and later moved to the “Or Yisrael” Yeshiva in Petach Tikvah, where he moved to another yeshivah, He was a member of the “Elko” factory in Ramat Gan, and when he joined the IDF in December 1953, he joined the Nahal Brigade, and after his training he left with a nucleus for Kibbutz Hefetz Haim. After a while he went to a training course and from there to the Lavi farm, and finally, after completing a course in combat command, he took charge of the two departments in Kfar Darom. In 1955 he participated in the Battle of Nitzana and his hand was in the liquidation of the Fedayeen that year. After his discharge, he embarked on a parachuting course, but was unable to finish it when he was called again to join the Nahal Paratroopers Brigade, fell in battle at the Mitla Pass in the Sinai Campaign on 27 March 1956. He was buried in the military cemetery (5.11.1957) was transferred to the old cemetery in Zichron Meir near Bnei Brak, in memory of which a charity fund was established in his honor, and a Torah library was established in his name on the kibbutz Sha’alvim, whose memory was mentioned in Uri Milstein’s book, “The Paratroop Wars.”
