Levy, Massoud

Masoud, son of Solika and Abraham, was born in 1951 in Morocco and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1957. In Israel he studied for five years at the elementary school in Moshav Elyakim, and another two years at the Sde Yehoshua school. Because of his sense of responsibility and the health of his parents, who were treated in a large family, he decided to abandon his studies and leave for work at this stage, despite his talents and ability to study. He began to work in various construction projects and eventually became a professional of the first order. When his parents died – first the father and then the mother – Mas’ud became a father and mother of his four brothers and five sisters, he treated them and guided them on their way. Massoud was drafted into the IDF in May 1969 and was appointed as a foreman, and was not proud of him when he was sent, at the recommendation of his commanders He was also recommended to go to the officers’ course, and his commanders did not spare him verbal and written praise, and in their assessments they wrote: “Serves as a foreman and fulfills his duties With dedication and success: “Another commander wrote that Mas’ud was a camp commander and so on A discipline with a strong will and carrying out the tasks entrusted to him in the best possible way. “Masoud is a responsible and devoted soldier who performs his duties with devotion. After completing his compulsory service he volunteered to serve in the regular army. During this period he even married his girlfriend Madeleine, and they both established their home in the immigrant town of Beit Shemesh. During the War of Attrition and the Yom Kippur War, Mas’ud served in the front lines and was awarded the “Operational Service Award”. On the 8th of Shevat 5734 (February 10, 1974), Mas’ud fell in the line of duty, brought to rest in the Beit Shemesh cemetery and left behind a wife, daughter, brothers and sisters. His condolences to the family said that Masoud was “responsible and devoted to his soldiers and as the eldest brother of his brother nurtured the unit, took care of the soldiers, handled and solved problems that arose among the soldiers.
