Yoni joined the IDF at the end of September 1993. After basic training, he underwent various technical courses, and later moved to serve as a driver in the Air Force Equipment and Quartermaster Unit, Where he drove various vehicles throughout the service. On the day of the 12th of Adar 5756 (March 3, 1996), Yoni was killed when a bomb exploded in a bus on bus No. 18, near the central bus station in Jerusalem. He was twenty-one years old when he fell. He was promoted to First Sergeant after his death. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. Survived by his parents and five brothers.
