Levi, Shlomo (Solon)
Shlomo, son of Esther and Avraham Levi, was born in 1925 in the Greek town of Trikala, the district of Thessaly. He immigrated to Israel in June 1946. With the outbreak of the War of Independence he was among the first to report to the army, enlisted and sent to the Galilee. Shlomo excelled in the battles and was sent to study in the officers’ course. At the end of the course he participated in the defense of Mishmar Ha’emek, Tzemach, Ramat Yochanan and Beit She’an Valley and served in the Barak Battalion of the Golani Brigade. On the 14th of Iyar, 5708 (May 23, 1948), he was wounded and killed by shrapnel that hit him while riding in a jeep while carrying out his duties. He was laid to rest at the cemetery in Ein Harod.
