Levi, Shimon

Son of Yehia z “l and Pnina was born in 1952 in modest Yemen. Immigrated to Israel with his family in 1954. He completed his elementary studies at the Uziel Elementary School in Ramla. From childhood he grew up in difficult living conditions and when he grew up he decided to take part in the family’s livelihood. Upon the death of his father, he was forced to go to work to allow his mother and brother to live in dignity, and therefore he was unable to expand his education and study in high school. Shimon loved literature and devoted his free hours to reading books and expanding his general education. He was a painting enthusiast and used to go home when the work was done and paint. His love of home and family knew no bounds, and he hurt his brothers and sisters. His friend from childhood says: “Shimon was a well-liked and pleasant man, and his outstanding characteristics – He has the image of a special person. ” Shimon was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in July 1970. After completing his basic training, he was sent to an Engineering Corps unit as a quartermaster, and upon his discharge from the regular army service, Shimon began to move to the reserves. “Shimon fought in the Yom Kippur War, knew battles of fire and heavy bombardments, and behaved with dignity and in a manner that suited a soldier in the IDF. He was a responsible salesman, took care of the equipment and guarded it, equipped the soldiers with all they needed and did not spare time and labor until he got what he wanted. He volunteered for another reserve service in addition to the one set for him to arrange the soldiers’ club in the unit. “On Thursday, June 13, 1975, Shimon fell in the line of duty. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Ramle. He was survived by a mother, three sisters and five brothers. His family donated a Torah scroll in memory of a synagogue in Ramle
