Levi, Eliahu (‘Lalo’)

Levi, Eliahu (‘Lalo’)

Son of Shlomo and Mazal was born in 1953 in Casablanca, Morocco. Immigrated to Israel with his family in 1957 when he was four years old. At first the family settled in Beit She’an and then moved to Migdal HaEmek. Eliahu had difficulties adjusting to the school framework. Before he graduated from elementary school, he tried his luck at the Miften vocational school. Here it turned out that he had found his place. He acquired the carpentry profession, and even served as a guide in this profession to the new students. The death of his father and the fact that all his brothers and sisters were married, left the house, were treated with their own concerns, and placed on Elijah a responsibility he could not cope with. When he was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in May 1971, he was in a constant struggle between his loyalty to the army and his concern for his sick mother, seeking to relieve her loneliness and the tedium of her life and help her to survive. For a certain period he served as a regimental policeman after passing a suitable course. In the last chapter of his service, he was employed as an assistant to the cook and played this role in the responsibility and satisfaction of his superiors. On the 27th of Elul 5707 (27.8.1975), when he imagined that he had found the love and tenderness that had so far been lacking in his life, he died at the time of his service. .
