Lehavi, Yitzhak (Itzi)
Yitzhak (Itzi), son of Guta and Uriel, was born on May 8, 1947 in Merhavia. He studied with the children of the kibbutz and later went on to study at the Vardi High School in Merhavia. Yitzhak was a diligent student and loved by his teachers and friends. When the Yom Kippur War broke out he was drafted and sent with his unit to the front in the Golan Heights. In the battle that took place between Nahal Gesher and Tel Fares opposite Hosheniya, on October 9, 1973, Yitzhak’s tank was hit and he was critically wounded in the head. On October 13, 1973, Yitzhak died of his wounds. He was laid to rest in the Merhavia cemetery. He left behind a wife, parents and two sisters. His son, who was born after his fall, bears his name Sivan-Yitzhak. After his fall, he was promoted to First Sergeant.
