Lebowitz, Uri


Son of-Itzhak-Yaakov and Tova. He was born on 31.1.1946 in Kiryat Motzkin near Haifa. He completed his studies at the elementary school in the Kirya and then attended a vocational high school in the Arab sector because he took care of his future. He was a member of the “Mahanot Ha’olim” and decided to join the nucleus that had come to fruition and became a member of Kibbutz Gadot. During his spare time, he would collect and sort stamps. When he was drafted he was found to be in poor health, but he did not accept his classification. He appealed twice, together with his friends, to the Paratroopers Course. He was drafted into the IDF and served in a paratroop brigade. He was naturally prepared to come to the aid of all those in need, for he was kind and loved to donate his own – and so he was attached to a combat paramedics course. After his release, he was called up for reserve duty from time to time, and on the eve of the Six-Day War called to reserve duty. On the second day of the battles, he was on the 27th of Iyar 5727 (June 6, 1967). Was commended by the GOC Central Command for his courage and devotion to the cause. And the description of the act tells that the entire duration of the fighting rescued, bandaged, and evacuated wounded persons from areas exposed to the legion fire, while himself was in most of the time under the fire. Was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. Hakibbutz Hame’uchad’s memoir “Who Fell in the War” was mentioned. A booklet in his memory called “Uri” publishing house. In the book “Marinas Gabro” of the Paratroopers Headquarters was devoted a page to his history and description of his last battle. His name was immortalized in a booklet issued by the Kiryat Motzkin local council in memory of the fallen boys.
