Lavi, Yaron

Lavi, Yaron

Ben Sarah and Shmuel. He was born on the 29th of Elul 5744 (29.8.1984) in Nahariya, where Yaron was born, his older brother was one year old, and when he reached the age of eighteen months his younger brother Omer grew up with Yaron and his two brothers as a trio. At the age of six, Yaron began his studies at the Remez elementary school in Nahariya and continued on to the middle and high school of the Yitzhak Rabin Rabin Elementary School, where he studied administration, Yaron lived near the sea and loved to surf. He spent all his vacations at sea and on trips – first on bicycle trips, and at the age of 16, after getting a motorcycle license – he would travel with his friends throughout the northern region and accumulate experience Liron had golden hands and he told his friends before the events and holidays and before they joined the IDF. The friends arrived en masse and Yaron told them expertly and happily and shaped their hair. It is not impossible that in the future it would become a professional book. Liron had many friends and was open 24 hours a day. Always available, available and ready to help and listen. And his friends did arrive at any time, day and night, because they knew that with Yaron you can talk, Yaron can enjoy and laugh, and if any of them need an urgent haircut – he came to the right address. One of the friends described it well: “I liked it best when I returned from the army and I always have somewhere to go, even in the middle of the night.” Yaron joined the IDF in August 2003 and was stationed in an air force anti-aircraft unit. Because of a medical problem from which he was suffering, he was given a profile too low to serve as a combat soldier and he was sent to serve as a cook. At first he was disgruntled but soon recovered, adapted to the base and its terms, acquired good friends, and learned to recognize the importance of the chef’s work. Yaron won the love of base soldiers and commanders who discovered the hands of his skill book and helped him many times. His personal commander defined him as an outstanding soldier, responsible and orderly. Yaron fell during his service on the 23rd of Adar 5765 (March 4, 2005) in a traffic accident that occurred on the Haifa-Acre road. It was Thursday night and Yaron, who was on vacation last weekend, went out with his brother Omar and his friends to spend a routine outing at Kibbutz Yagur. While driving, he sat in the car in the back with two of his fellow soldiers, the three of whom were wearing seat belts. At Kfar Masaryk junction, near Acre, the driver lost control of the vehicle and as a result a fatal accident was caused. Yaron broke his neck and was killed on the spot. His two comrades who sat behind him – Corporal Nir Nagola and Corporal Zvi Kaufman – were also killed, and Yaron’s brother, Omer, was lightly wounded. Six more people were injured in the accident. Twenty years old Yaron was falling. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Nahariya, with masses of residents accompanying his coffin and buried beside his good friends. Survived by parents and two brothers – Gal and Omer. After his fall he was promoted to sergeant. In the condolence letter to the family, the battalion commander, Yaron, said: “Yaron arrived at the battalion with a young, quiet and introverted soldier, who likes to help everyone and is full of good intentions.” Yaron also served as a good supervisor in the kitchen and in the dining room. And he volunteered to tell some of the battalion’s commanders and fighters on his own initiative, and again, as usual, with a pleasant smile and with the proper professionalism, Yaron was sent from time to time to positions on the border, served a significant service in the front line of the army and helped the battalion fighters in his unique way. At the memorial ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of his death, Liron eulogized his friends: “A child of laughter, to you everyone comes to talk, to laugh and to consult, to share and mainly to cut your hair.”
