Kobi, Gavriel Gal
Gavriel Gal, son of Smadar Sol and Oved Kobi, was born in Haifa in 1993. He was a dominant figure in the family; his younger brothers had a role model . In 2011, Gal enlisted in the IDF, and joined the Rotem Battalion in the Givati Brigade. He underwent exhausting basic training, continued intensive advanced training and after a year of hard work finished the track and became a fighter. Gal fell in operational activity in Hebron on 19 Tishrei, September 22, 2013. During the entire day, the third day of Sukkot, masses of visitors arrived at the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron. Soldiers of the Rotem Battalion guarded the area. At six in the evening, a terrorist fired a bullet that hit Gal’s neck and critically wounded him. Gal was taken to Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem, but the doctors’ efforts did not help and he died. Gal was twenty years old in his fall. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. Survived by parents and two brothers. After his fall, Gal was promoted to First Sergeant.
