Katz Halevi, Morris (Moshe David)

Morris, son of Sylvia and Andre (Kay), was born on 17 April 1952 in Edinburgh, Scotland, and immigrated to Israel in 1971. Morris was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in mid-January 1972 and volunteered for the paratroop brigade in the framework of the “Moriah” nucleus, which was about to immigrate to Massuah after completing basic training. He was awarded an “Operational Service Award” several times, and was asked by the military authorities to allow him to visit his parents in Scotland, but the visit was postponed from time to time until the war broke out and Morris was not allowed to travel. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, Morris and his comrades were sent to the Sinai front and participated in the braking battles against the Egyptians. On the 19th of Tishrei 5740 (October 19, 1973), when his unit was operating in the vicinity of Maska, a Katyusha shell hit his pit directly and he was killed on the spot. He was laid to rest in the cemetery at Kibbutz Lavi. Survived by father, mother and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal.
