Kashi, Binyamin


Binyamin, son of Miriam and Joseph Kashi, was born on the 17th of Cheshvan 5661 (8.11.1930) in Tel Aviv. When he was fifteen and a half he worked in the Buchover publishing company to the aid of the family and there he continued his studies. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, Binyamin, was called at night to guard the city limits. He participated in the defense of the Hatikva neighborhood on the night of the big attack, returning with a paralyzed finger. Binyamin joined the first enlistment order at the age of 17. He was attached to one of the Givati ​​Brigade battalions and took part in operations in the Negev. Binyamin, wrote home that “It will not be long before the entire Negev will be ours,” he promised his parents in a letter received after his death. With the resumption of fighting at the end of the first truce, Givati ​​forces conquered the outpost of Ibdis, northeast of the Negev. The Egyptians carried out heavy attacks on the fort and Binyamin fell protecting this vital outpost on the 2nd of Tammuz 5708 (9.7.1948) and was brought to rest at the military cemetery in Negba.
