Karsanti, Aharon

Karsanti, Aharon

Son of Rina and David, was born on the 18th of Tevet, Jan 18, 1930 in Afula. Aharon attended religious schools in Tiberias and Afula. He had a permanent smile on his face. Aharon was a friendly young man with a delicate sense of humor, who never gave up. When he was 14 years old, he joined the ranks of the Irgun Zvai Leumi (National Military Organization) and worked in its ranks until he fell. Aharon became a regular combat soldier who was on guard duty. When the Irgun’s Altalena arrived in Israel and thousands of rifles, armored vehicles and millions of bullets of all kinds were found on board and in its warehouses, which the Yishuv was so desperate for, Aaron was sent to the ship to help unload the weapons and bring them down to safety. On the day of 15 Sivan 5708 (22.6.1948), even before the weapons were completely taken off, a cannon opened fire on the ship, and although a white flag was hoisted on it, it continued firing until the ship was burned. Twenty-two Irgun members on board the ship, including Aharon, were killed in the shooting. He was laid to rest at the Nahalat Yitzhak Military Cemetery, leaving his parents and three sisters.
