Karniel, David


Son of Yeshayahu (Osias) and Yaffa. He was born on 6 June 1938 in Tel Aviv, but when he was six months old his parents returned to Czernowitz, Romania, and survived the hardships of the Second World War and the Nazi persecution. After the war his family settled in Puchshany, He graduated with honors from the elementary and high schools in the city and was diligent and always ready to help his friends, and then continued his studies at the Faculty of Mathematics in Bucharest, adding another three years of study in the mechanical engineering faculty. David succeeded in immigrating to Israel at the end of 1963, continuing his studies at the Technion He graduated from Solel Boneh and signed a contract with him, where he undertook to work in the company’s factories everywhere in the country according to the company’s needs David enlisted in the IDF in mid-July 1965 and was assigned to the Armored Corps. After graduating, he moved to Be’er Sheva and was hired as a construction engineer, and in 1968 he began teaching at the Faculty of Mechanics at the son of-Gurion University of the Negev. He was highly regarded and considered among the students as one of the most talented lecturers, he served in the Six Day War and won the battle, David loved literature and classical music, sang a lot and was an outstanding chess player, and was not satisfied with the BA degree in structural engineering he received at the Technion He completed his master’s degree in Be’er Sheva, but did not manage to submit his thesis On May 14, 1973, he fell in the line of duty and was put to rest at the military cemetery in Be’er Sheva, and placed a wife and two children in a condolence letter to the family. David’s commander: “I knew David during his service in my unit as a soldier devoted to work in an unusual manner, a neat and loyal boy, quiet and humble, who was acceptable to all his friends. him”.
