Kakon, David


Mazal Mazaloff, was born on the 26th of Iyar 5709 (6.6.1959) in Morocco. He was the third son of a family with many children, who immigrated from Morocco in 1962. The family settled in Kiryat Shmona, settled in the town and was one of the oldest in it. David received a traditional national education. After completing his studies at Sde Ya’akov, he went to study at the Yeshivat HaKotel in Jerusalem, where he spent a year as a student At the hesder yeshiva in July 1978, David enlisted in the IDF and served in the Nahal paramilitary brigade, where he underwent training in basic training, and continued his studies at the hesder yeshiva in Kiryat Shmona. When his friends suggested that he go down to the shelter because of life-saving, he replied that in times of emergency someone had to continue studying E. With the outbreak of the Lebanon War was called up for reserve duty. He broke with his unit in the enemy systems, and on the fourth day of the war, about Sivan Tsm”b (10/06/1982) fell in battle. He was 23 years old. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shmona. He was followed by parents, five sisters and four brothers. Defense Minister Ariel Sharon wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “Private David Kakon gave his life for his homeland, and he served in an immortal Nahal battalion. Was a student at the hesder yeshiva. “The fact that David combined both Torah study and service in the combat force attests to the fact that he was educated on lofty principles and ideals, which he hoped to realize.” The commander of his unit wrote to his family: A Torah scroll was placed in the Heichal David synagogue in the Kiryat Shmona neighborhood of his family.
