Jacob, Tuvia

Tuvia, son of Amalia and Eliahu, was born on 27 March 1952 in Cairo, Egypt, when his family immigrated to Israel and settled in Ramla, Tuvia was drafted into the IDF at the beginning of May 1970. He rejected offers to serve in the Israeli Navy and chose to join the infantry, and after completing basic training, he completed a platoon commander training course and was authorized to wear a paratrooper’s wings. Tuvia was known among his friends and commanders as a good and responsible soldier. He tried with all his might to carry out the tasks assigned to him properly, was meticulous in his discipline, and acted with initiative and independence in training and operational activities. He served as part of the Golani reconnaissance unit and for his activities he was awarded the “Operational Service Award”. In May 1973 he completed his compulsory service with the rank of sergeant. For several months he had helped his parents to support the household and had thought about how he would direct his life. The Yom Kippur War put an end to the plans and dreams he had devised. Tuvia did not wait for the call when the Yom Kippur War broke out. He volunteered and was sent to the northern front. For seven days he fought with great devotion and with exemplary devotion to his unit against the Syrians. On October 14, 1973, Tuvia was killed in a battle near Mazra’at Beit Jann in the Golan Heights. He was laid to rest in the civil cemetery in Ramle. Survived by his father, mother, three brothers and two sisters.
