Jacob Menachem

Was born on Yom Kippur (October 14, 1929) in Greece, and at the age of two and a half he came with his parents to Israel and the family settled in Tel Aviv, where he graduated from the “Mizrachi” elementary school in Tel Aviv, At the Max Payne School in Tel Aviv, he belonged to the “Old Scouts” troop and then moved to Hanoar Haoved, where he studied at a seminar for instructors of the Tel Aviv branch, and from the age of thirteen he was a member of the Haganah After the outbreak of the War of Independence after the United Nations General Assembly resolution of 29 November 1947 on the partition of the land, he immediately appeared in the ranks of the defenders of Tel Aviv and took part in repelling many Arab attacks Which is adjacent to Tel Aviv. When the battle was over in Israel, he was sent to Hulda and in one of the battles he was wounded in the leg. Upon his recovery, he was transferred to Brigade 7 and participated in the “son of-Nun Bet” operation – the second attack on the Latrun Legion in order to break through the road to Jerusalem. There was a force that broke into the court of the Latrun police but encountered heavy enemy fire and was forced to withdraw. This battle fell on May 30, 1948. On the 17th of Cheshvan 5709 (17.11.1949) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
