Izirer, Gad
Gad Izirer son of Deborah and Yehoshua was born in 1910 in Kishinev, in Bessarabia. Gad learnt in the yeshiva of Kishinev and spent all his free time reading and studying Jewish studies and knowledge of the Land of Israel. As a member of “Hechalutz”, he went to pioneering training and worked in the village for one season. In the meantime, Gad had to enlist in the Romanian army. After his release, he spent several months in a detention camp. World War II took place and the detainees were transferred to Israel at the end of 1939. When Gad arrived in Israel, he joined the General Federation of Labor, where he was an enthusiastic member until his last days. Since his arrival he has also been a member of Haganah, worked and lived with his parents, who in the meantime, succeeded in immigrating to Israel. Upon the outbreak of the War of Independence Gad enlisted immediately, passed a sniper course, and went on dangerous patrols. He was solid in nature, firm in his ambitions, he knew no fear, and kept to the limit of his ability to obey orders. On the 16th of Tishrai, October 19, 1948, when he was in an outpost in the Modiin area, he fell from a sniper’s bullet and was brought to eternal rest in the Nahalat Yitzhak military cemetery.
